Angus Miller, Geo Walks – Geology walk, harbour to Belhaven
Saturday, May 20, 2017 / 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
£5A short walk along the Dunbar coastal path, to explore the different kinds of rock and the evidence of past activity. We’ll find the remains of several volcanoes, about 340 million years old – lava flows, layers of ash, in-filled vents and intrusions. We will also dig deeper into Dunbar’s geological history, finding some older sedimentary rocks, sandstone layers with intriguing features that tell us about the time when this area baked in a desert climate south of the equator. We will walk from the harbour along the coastal path and the promenade, with a couple of diversions onto pebbly and sandy beaches, returning to the town centre at the end of the walk.
Distance 4km (suitable for 12+ years).
