John Muir’s Birthplace is located off the A1, in the centre of the town, towards the north end of the High Street.
As part of our Green Tourism commitment ‘green’ visitors who have travelled to the Birthplace by public transport are welcome to a 10% shop discount on production of their ticket, also walking groups and those who have cycled (this cannot be combined with any other offer).

Rail
Dunbar Station is just a 10 minute walk away. There is a train service to Dunbar from Edinburgh, Musselburgh and the south.
We are on National Route 76 of the National Cycle Network which runs from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Edinburgh, Stirling and Kirkcaldy, with the route on both sides of the Forth.
Cycle racks are available either side of our main entrance and outside the Bank of Scotland.
